Three of the games had finished in this match before any results had been posted by teams “B” and “C”. The remaining game did continue till the end of the session but that too never looked in doubt. Our team had already qualified for the play-offs and will face the second placed team in Group B – but firstly will be looking to finish on 100%.

Board One was easily halved whilst we won Board Two where the Yorkshire player ran out of time in a difficult position. I’d like to turn to Boards 3 & 4 with a glowing report but unfortunately both were disasters. Had we managed a point in this match we would have been safe; as it is we go into Round Seven still in the middle of a relegation scrap.

I’m sure that Wessex are glad to see the back of us. Hostilities were concluded on Board Three and we took the lead with an endgame win on Board Two. Wessex pressed the self-destruct button on the bottom board after which the entertaining top board game was agreed as a draw. This leaves the team joint top and in a strong position to qualify for the play-offs.
