George Harper passed away peacefully this week at the age of 92. Until about 3 years ago George had been a member of Newark Chess Club for many years and attended club nights regularly.
George was an important part of the club and acted as treasurer for several years before taking over as chairman for a few more years. He played many Notts League matches for the second and third teams, as well as filling in for the first team when we were short of players.
