NCA Bulletins

1982/83

Liverpool top of the league, Forest in the European places, University Students runners-up in NCA Division 1, Steve Burke, Jerry Herrington and Neil Graham turning out for Sutton CC: this batch of bulletins from the 1982/83 season takes us back to the future.

A decade on from Fischer-Spassky, 34 clubs were affiliated to the Notts Chess Association, entering 75 teams (of five or, in Division 1, six players) across five divisions. Fondly remembered names amongst them: Raleigh, Plessey, Sherwood Colliery, Mechanics, Nottingham Electricity and many others.

Fascinating reports on county teams’ matches; rising star Graham Waddingham’s 300-board simultaneous display at the QMC (I guess car parking wasn’t a problem in those days!?); annotated games from those brave enough to submit them for admiration or ridicule. There is plenty to admire and enjoy in these time capsules.

NB. Addresses and telephone numbers have been redacted.

If anyone has bulletins #1 (November 1982) or #7 (May 1983), please let Drag Sudar or me know.
