The County Championships were held on Sunday 15th June and Sunday 20th July, organised by Radcliffe and Bingham at their Royal British Legion Social Club, Radcliffe-on-Trent venue. The playing schedule comprised five rounds of ECF-rated standard play with a time limit of 75’ plus 2” increments under the watchful eye of FIDE Arbiter Hambel Willow.
A tense second Sunday saw Worksop’s Alexandr Klimchik clinch the Open title – and the coveted Silver Rook trophy – for the first time with 3.5 points, half a point ahead of Dave Flynn (Nomads), Mike Naylor-Eade (Gambit) and Frank Richmond (West Bridgford). Frank won the Junior trophy.
Consecutive wins in the final two rounds saw Eddie Bromilow (West Bridgford) win the U1850 trophy. The U1600 trophy was won by Radcliffe and Bingham’s Julius Vasiliauskas
