County Chess Returns

Notts entered the county arena for the first time in four seasons with a visit to Lincolnshire in the Under 1850 section.

The venue was North Hykeham and we are indebted to our hosts for making the arrangements. Nottinghamshire outrated their opponents on every one of the 14 board played so it was little surprise that we ran out a 9½-4½ victors. The top four boards we amongst the first to finish and despite an upset on Board Two, Notts won these by 3-1. After this the results steadily trickled in with Notts always in the lead although Lincolnshire did score three wins.  The match finished with a draw on Board 14. Special thanks to Nigel Wright who stepped in on the morning of the match after a withdrawal of another team member who fell ill overnight. Also thanks to those players who provided transport. We have a further match scheduled for January 24th at Bramcote against Staffordshire.
